— IN DEPTH
Palazzo della Farnesina, designed in the 1930s by the architect Enrico Del Debbio in the Rationalist style, has housed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1959. The interiors — modular ceilings, travertine columns, rigorous geometry — call for lighting that disappears: no decoration, only diffused light.
The new suspensions take the form of blown opaline-glass cylinders, calibrated to even out the light over the marble floors. The refurbishment replaced a portion of the building's historic suspensions, keeping coherence with the original design while updating the requirements for lighting efficiency.
